Un barco robot que se alimenta de paneles solares y que es capaz de navegar a una velocidad de 1,2 metros por segundo partirá de Portugal el próximo octubre y llegará tres meses después al Caribe después de realizar una serie de investigaciones científicas sobre la composición química de los océanos. Se llama Pinta, como la calabera de Colón, y si cumple su objetivo abrirá paso a una nueva era de monitorización de los entornos marinos por medio de robots. Pinta partirá junto a otros seis barcos-robot formando parte de una singular regata, llamada Microtransat, que pretende probar la resistencia y la fiabilidad de los robots en condiciones climáticas reales y alejados de cargadores de baterías.
